Our Story

Hi! I’m Julie, the woman behind The Clay Room.

Our name is an ode to where my passion for ceramics first began, the high school clay room.

Although I loved exploring all kinds of art, it didn’t take long for me to realize that clay had my heart. It was in that classroom that I discovered not only my love for ceramics, but also my passion for helping others discover it for themselves.

I went on to earn my degree in Art Education and spent nearly 10 years teaching high school ceramics in Maryland. After my daughter, Frankie, was born (who already seems to be quite the little artist herself!), our family moved back to Pennsylvania to be closer to home. Since then, I’ve spent the past four years teaching adults ceramics at a local pottery studio.

Altogether, Ive been creating with clay for nearly 20 years and have spent 14 of those years teaching others. There’s nothing more rewarding than watching someone transform a lump of clay into something they’re genuinely proud of.

They Clay Room was created because I wanted to share that experience with even more people. As a traveling pottery studio, I bring the creativity, tools, and instruction directly to you - whether you’re gathering with friends, celebrating a special occasion or simply looking to try something new.

My hope is to recreate the same welcoming, creative atmosphere that inspired me all those years ago in my own high school clay room. It’s a place where people slow down, get their hands dirty, laugh together and leave with something meaningful they made themselves. (And don’t worry, we’ll leave your space just as clean as we found it!)

I believe there’s something truly special about taking a piece of earth and transforming it into a lasting keepsake. I can’t wait to create with you and help you discover the joy of clay!
